DC-DC converters are a class of power electronic devices which process a DC source voltage into a different DC voltage level and various other forms of output. A basic DC-DC converter consists of power switches, energy storage devices, control circuitry, and an output transformer or inductor. There are numerous types of converters based on the switching topology employed. TDR 2-4813 is a series of step-down DC-DC converters. It uses the Buck topology to convert the input voltage into a proportionally lower output voltage.
The TDR 2-4813 series is a switching regulator that maintains its output voltage at a very steady level when the input voltage and load connected to its output varies. It works by regulating the input power based on the output voltage. This is accomplished with a voltage regulation loop. The regulation loop controls two transistors and regulates the output voltage by varying the duty cycle of the converter. The regulator converts a higher input voltage into a lower output voltage by chopping up the input voltage into a series of pulses. All of these versions have their own unique set of advantages and disadvantages. They are also available with a wide range of input voltages, efficiency factors, and output power.
The TDR 2-4813 regulator also comes in different sizes and is suitable for many applications, such as cellular phones, PDAs, digital cameras, portable medical instruments, automotive electronics, and industrial robotic and machine automation. It is also well-suited for use in computers, although lower power versions may be used. It is particularly suited for applications in which a low level of current consumption is desired or a low voltage is required.
