During the switch-on phase, the process begins with current mode PFC, in which the VA peak current limit is set by a protection register and actuated based on the current peak limit. As long as the peak current limit is larger than the maximum current peak, no safety issue occurs. If a current peak takes place, the IC shuts down the bridge in order to prevent any damage.

The secondary process is the active bridge rectification, which enacts the flyback operation. To keep the circuit functioning optimally, the load needs to remain constant. During normal flyback operation, the IC monitors the over current protection and load disconnect features. To cease an over-current situation, the IC will shut down the internal switch.

Once an open loop situation is detected, the IC will shut down the system. The same applies for an overload situation and the IC will switch off in order to protect the system.
