TEA1721ADB1059,598 Evaluation Board – DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS Technology OverviewThe TEA1721ADB1059,598 evaluation board is part of a family of advanced, high power AC/DC and DC/DC off-line SMPS (Switched Mode Power Supply) solutions. It is designed to be used in conjunction with either a buck (step-down) or boost (step-up) type configuration. The board supports multiple output voltages ranging from 1.5 V to 48 V. The TEA1721ADB1059,598 evaluation board leverages a patented Power Integrations design that provides a balanced, efficient and low-cost method for controlling and converting AC power to regulated DC supply voltages. Advanced power electronic features include primary-side sensing and control, valley current blanking, advanced current limiting and over-voltage protection. Application FieldThe TEA1721ADB1059,598 evaluation board is primarily designed to provide a stable regulated output voltage for all types of AC line powered electrical equipment. This includes PCs, consumer electronics, gaming systems, commercial products, industrial equipment, automotive and off-grid/mobile applications. It is an ideal, cost-effective power supply solution for applications that require a reliable, regulated DC output voltage over a wide range of input voltage and temperature conditions.Working PrincipleThe TEA1721ADB1059,598 evaluation board uses Power Integrations advanced Off-Line SMPS technology to regulate the output voltage. A patented valley current blanking feature and advanced current limiting circuitry helps improve the dynamic line and load response of the power supply. When the input AC line voltage reaches the Power Integrations patented Blanking Window, the power supply will stop the switching process and reset the timing. This reset prevents the rectified AC waveform from reaching the current limit threshold by “blanking” out the dead time of the input waveform, allowing the user to take advantage of the full isolation and power transfer potential of the Power Integrations advanced technology. The TEA1721ADB1059,598 evaluation board also features built-in over-temperature and over-voltage protection which helps protect the power supply from abnormal conditions. The evaluation board also has an adjustable current limiting feature, allowing users to set the maximum peak load current that the power supply can deliver to prevent overloading or damage.
