The TEA1833LTS/1H is a two-stage offline switching power supply, capable of providing a total power output of 90 watts (18V – 0.5A, 12V – 0.5A). It is composed of a low-voltage PWM (pulse width modulation) buck converter and a high-voltage half-boxing flyback converter, both integrated into a TO-220 package. The TEA1833LTS/1H has various protection features and a small form-factor to minimize the system’s board size. Working Principle of TEA1833LTS/ 1H
The TEA1833LTS / 1H works by making use of two stages. The first stage is a low-voltage PWM (pulse width modulation) buck converter. This stage reduces the input voltage to a stable lower DC voltage. The second stage is a high voltage half-boxing flyback converter, which further regulates this DC voltage to the desired output voltage.
For the buck converter, the input voltage is applied to the switch and then switched on or off by a pulse width modulated PWM controller. When the switch is opened, the current stored in the inductor bleeds to the output node, delivering power to the load. When the switch is closed, the current is inverted and sent to the source, thus completing the loop.
For the flyback converter, the input voltage is applied to the transformer, which then steps down the voltage and transfers it to the output. The transformer is controlled by a pulse width modulator, which switches the current on or off. When the switch is open, the current stored in the transformer is bled to the output node. When the switch is closed, the current is inverted and sent back to the input side.
The TEA1833LTS/1H constantly monitors the input and output voltages to maintain the output voltage within the desired levels. If the output voltage rises too high or if the input voltage drops too low, the IC will shut of the power to the load. It also provides over-current and over-temperature protection to prevent the system from overheating or overloading.
