The TEA1833TS/1X is a high-compliance, quasi-resonant, low-power-mode switcher. It is generally employed in various low-power, low-noise AC/DC converters with an output power up to 20 W or 30 W. The TEA1833TS/1X provides high levels of power efficiency and EMI compliance, meeting international regulations for low power applications. Furthermore, the low power mode operation of the TEA1833TS/1X enables standby power reduction to less than 0.5 W.
The application field of the TEA1833TS/1X can be extended to e.g., embedded systems, such as PoE, security surveillance, laptop adapters, various low-power ac/dc adapters, battery-chargers, wireless charging and so on. Moreover, it operates in a forward, flyback or push-pull circuit depending on the external configurations. Therefore, the TEA1833TS/1X can offer a high flexibility to be adapted to most types of circuits in the low-power application field.
The TEA1833TS/1X is an adaptive quasi-resonant switcher providing high efficiency and very low EMI disturbances. The high peak-current capability of 1.2 A in continuous conduction mode (CCM) allows the integration of the magnetic components in a two-element design such of transformers, for applications including auxiliary power supplies. The TEA1833TS/1X is driven by the internal oscillator to reduce external components, enabling a smaller printed-circuit board (PCB) which could be a great advantage for system cost.
To fully approach the low power application environment, TEA1833TS/1X also provides multiple protection features such as over-voltage protection (OVP) and under-voltage protection (UVP). Moreover, in the case of output short-circuit, a current hiccup or over-current protection (OCP) limits the power dissipation of the device, while the temperature limitation keeps it within the rated temperature limits and thus preventing long-term damage.
The working principle of the TEA1833TS/1X is based on the well-known quasi-resonant feature employing energy storage in series resonant mode as well as fixed-frequency burst mode to find a dynamic balance between constant-frequency and discontinuous-conduction modes. In other words, the TEA1833TS/1X provides dynamic shift in the boundary of either-continuousconduction-mode (CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). This provides good load regulation performance at light- and medium-loads, with low acoustic-noise and high efficiency.
The internal adaptive reset and quasi-resonant burst frequency related to the input voltage and the load current permit the device to function in high efficiency and low electromagnetic interference (EMI). The adaptive reset mode ensures that the load current reaches and remains within the critical conduction mode (CRM) over the entire operating range. On the other hand, the quasi-resonant burst operation mode grants the best aspect of both CCM and DCM modes, improving drastically the EMI.
In conclusion, the TEA1833TS/1X adapts itself automatically to low power applications, providing flexible configuration in the low-power field. With plenty of features such as low power mode, 1.2 A peak current capability, small PCB space, multiple protection features and high efficiency, the TEA1833TS/1X is an ideal choice for small offline switcher application.
