Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are one of the most widely used passive components in the electronics industry. The THA522M040AD0C is an aluminum electrolytic capacitor manufactured by Tai Sin Electric that is used primarily in consumer electronics and telecommunications applications. This capacitor features a 4.7µF capacitance rating and a ±20% tolerance range. It has superb ripple current capability with a capacitance of 26.3µF (at 100kHz, 120°C). It has a voltage rating of 160V (DC) along with excellent switching smoothing performance and rated minimum life (30,000 hours at 85°C). It is also RoHS compliant and UL recognized.

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are typically constructed with two electrodes (electrolyte) placed between two metal plates. The metal plates act as the dielectric layers and the electrolyte acts as the conductor of electrical current. The electrolyte is usually a mixture of aluminum oxides and acids. The two metal plates are commonly made of aluminum foil or aluminum alloy. One plate is placed on the outside, or "anode," and the other in the center, or "cathode."

For the THA522M040AD0C capacitor, the anode is made of aluminum foil with a thickened etch on its surface. The cathode is formed from strips of Copper-Coated Steel (CCS) insulation that are then clamped together with the anode. The electrolyte is usually a solution of sulfuric acid and aluminum oxides.
