Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are widely used in electronic equipment because of their long service life and relatively large capacity. Working Principle

The electrolytic capacitor working by using two aluminum foil plates that are treated separately. One of the plates is coated with an oxide layer while the other one is left bare.Electrolyte jelly is trapped between two aluminum foil and both of them are rolled up like a jelly roll.The electrolyte jelly is an ionic conductor, and electrolyte jelly and aluminum foil are two different poles of capacitor .The oxide layer on the one aluminum foil works as a dielectric material,while the bare aluminum foil on another plate functions as the opposite pole.

When DC voltage is applied to the aluminum electrolytic capacitor the electric field of the oxide dielectric is weakened,during the time the aluminum foil acts as the opposite pole and produces a positive current. At this point, the capacitor starts to accumulate the electric charge.The capacitor then holds the accumulated electric charge until the voltage is removed.

The charge capacity of the aluminum electrolytic capacitor is decided by different parameters, such as capacitance, temperature,max current and max voltage. It is also related to the ability of the electrolyte jelly and the quality of the oxide layer. Generally, the greater the capacitance value, the larger the total capacitance of the aluminum electrolytic capacitor.
