TIC226N-S

Thyristors are a type of semiconductor switch that controls electric power. They can be used as a power switch or can be used in a wide range of applications. In particular, Triacs – a type of thyristor – are used in many industrial, residential, commercial and automotive applications. The TIC226N-S is a two-terminal, bidirectional semiconductor switch, which is a type of Triac.

The TIC226N-S is especially useful for applications where electrical loads need to be controlled such as in dimmers and motor controls. Its bidirectional nature means it can switch on loads in either direction. This makes it suitable for applications where it may need to be used as a motor starter. This device also benefits from low gate current of 1.2mA and 1msec turn-on time.

The working principle of the TIC226N-S is the same as most Triacs. It operates as an electronic switch, allowing either positive or negative voltage to pass through it and control the current running through the load. When the Triac is disabled, the current is blocked and the load is turned off. When enabled, the load receives the correct amount of current and is turned on.

The TIC226N-S is triggered via the control terminal or gate. When a control voltage is applied to the gate and reaches the Gate Trigger Voltage level, the device enables, allowing current to flow from the Anode to the Cathode. The current then passes through the load, providing it with the power it needs to run. When the current through the gate reaches the Gate Trigger Current level, the device is disabled and the current stops flowing.

The TIC226N-S is also protected from overcurrent and overvoltage conditions. When the voltage applied to the anode and/or cathode reaches its maximum Breakover Voltage, the device is switched off. Similarly, when the current through the anode and/or cathode reaches its maximum Breakover Current, the device is switched off.

The TIC226N-S is versatile and can be used in a wide range of electronic switching and control applications such as lighting control and motor control. This device has the advantage of being reliable and easy to use, making it ideal for industrial and commercial applications.
