The TIP41AG is a complementary, low power, NPN/PNP, silicon, epitaxial-base, bipolar transistor designed for use in general purpose, switching, amplifier and pilot applications in DC and HF circuits. It is the best choice for circuits where low power consumption and moderate gain are primary requirements. The TIP41AG is available in a TO-220 package and is also typically used in high frequency low voltage switching applications.
The TIP41AG transistor consists of three main terminals, Base, Collector and Emitter. The most important distinction of the TIP41AG is the mounting of its emitter terminal which is above the collector terminal, making it much easier to use in the circuit. The collector terminal is connected to the power supply, the base terminal is connected to the electronic control signals, and the emitter terminal is connected to the collector terminal. This arrangement permits current to flow from the collector to the emitter when a small base current is applied.
The TIP41AG is essentially an NPN transistor. In order for a current to flow from the collector to the emitter, a small voltage is added to the base terminal. This voltage is multiplied by the gain of the transistor, and the resulting current flows from the collector to the emitter. When the voltage is removed from the base terminal, the current in the circuit will essentially decrease to zero.
