TISP3240F3DR-S Application Field and Working Principle
TISP3240F3DR-S is a Triac Insulated Silicon P- channel Thyristor (TISP) from Infineon Technologies, a pioneer in the development of thyristors. It is a three terminal device with a Thyristor body which is made up of Silicon P-channel MOSFETs, suitable for use in AC applications. This type of thyristor is mainly used for mains dimmers or AC power control for household appliances.
TISP3240F3DR-S is used for very low voltage low power applications, typically in the range of 10 to 200 V which is safe to the human body. It has an avalanche rating of 3A up to 600VAC and its gate is on the package side. Working Principle
The TISP3240F3DR-S consists of a Thyristor body and two integrated Gate driver transistors. When the Gate pulse voltage reaches the predetermined threshold voltage, the turn-on of the thyristor is triggered. This indicates that it can be triggered or switched on by either a low voltage input signal, or through integrated gate driver transistors. As long as the voltage across the Gate to cathode remains above the certain turn-on voltage, the thyristor will be conducting. When the applied gate voltage is removed, the thyristor will be turned off.
The TISP3240F3DR-S has two terminals on the body –Anode and Cathode and a third terminal, the Gate. When the positive DC potential is applied to the gate terminal and the anode and cathode are connected to an AC voltage, the thyristor will be conducting. When the AC voltage returns to the zero level, the thyristor will shut off. When the gate potential is applied with the same polarity as the applied voltage, the TISP3240F3DR-S will be triggered.
The body of the TISP3240F3DR-S is made up of two transistors, an P-channel MOSFET (Depletion type) and an N-channel MOSFET (Enhancement type). They are connected in an opposite manner, which means that when the gate potential is applied, it will activate the depletion N-channel MOSFET and deactivate the enhancement P-channel MOSFET. When the current level reaches the lower cutoff value, the P-channel MOSFET will be activated and N-channel MOSFET will be deactivated, making the entire thyristor to turn OFF.
