TISP4070H3LM

TISP4070H3LM is a Thyristor Surge Protection Device (TVS) for electronic circuit protection. This device is designed to provide protection from overvoltage transients when interfacing electronic equipment to outside power grids and communication lines. The concept of TVS is that the device is triggered by an overvoltage event and provides a low-impedance path for diverted surge currents. These devices can protect against voltage, current, or both. In addition to preventing damage to sensitive electronic components, TVS also prevents failure of electronic equipment that could adversely affect operation and safety of an application.

The TISP4070H3LM has a unidirectional voltage clamping function, with an integrated Zener diode for protection against electrostatic discharge (ESD) events, up to a peak pulse current of 400 amps. This device clip the voltage to a predefined voltage level over a wide range of application voltages. This enables the device to provide an effective protection level closer to the human body model (HBM) or quality standards.

This device has a monolithic package, which is composed of bi-directional opposite-direction silicon controlled rectifiers (SCRs), ESD protection components, and passivation layers. SCRs prevent overvoltage from flowing in either forward or reverse directions. The ESD protection components suppress high-frequency transient signals, while the passivation layers ensure lower leakage currents when the device is off.

The working principle of this device is that it relies on two voltage levels - a breakdown voltage at which the device is triggered and a clamping voltage that limits the resulting current until the device can reset itself. The breakdown voltage is the voltage level at which the internal SCRs are turned on so that the current from the application can flow through them. The clamping voltage is the voltage level at which the current in the circuit is limited for the duration of the overvoltage transients. After the peak voltage is reached, the current is reduced until the device can reset and turn the SCRs off.
