The principle that a thyristor works on is called “latching”. Latching is a process in which the device remains on or off based on how it was last set. When the thyristor is turned on, it will remain in that state until an external voltage is applied to the gate to switch it off. The thyristor controls power by switching current on or off, depending on whether the gate voltage is higher or lower than the load voltage. When the TISP4125M3LMR thyristor is turned on, the resistance between the anode and cathode pins of the device rapidly decreases. This increase in current flow from the anode to the cathode generates heat, which must be dissipated using a suitable heat sink, or else the device will overheat. When the thyristor is turned off, the device functions as an open circuit, meaning that no current can flow between the anode and the cathode. Conclusion
