Thyristors are three-terminal semiconductor devices, used as switches, in the form of the triode thyristor. In general, a triode thyristor is a four-layer structure of an anode, gate, cathode, and substrate. It works by controlling the flow of current from the anode to the cathode with the passage of a voltage through the gate of the device. This type of device is often referred to as a SCR, or Silicon Controlled Rectifier.The TISP4070L3BJR-S is a particularly suitable thyristor for TVS (Transient Voltage Surge Suppression) applications. This triode thyristor has a fast response time of 2.9µs (microseconds), a peak pulse current of 4000A, and a peak surge current of 10kA. These features make it suitable for absorbing very fast transients in the range of 1 to 40V, allowing it to protect applications from damaging voltage surges.The TISP4070L3BJR-S is particularly well-suited for protecting electronic systems such as computers, TV’s, and appliances from voltage surges, as it has an ultra-fast response time that prevents the damaging effects of high-voltage transients. Additionally, it has a very low leakage current of 0.1µA, meaning that it will not burden the system it is protecting with additional current draw. It also has a low on-state voltage drop of 1.75V, ensuring that it does not burden the system with excessive power consumption.The TISP4070L3BJR-S works through a mechanism of “reverse breakdown”, where it restricts the flow of current across the junction. When the voltage across the junction becomes higher than its rated value, it turns on, allowing current to flow in the reverse direction and limiting the voltage applied to the system it is protecting.When the voltage transient is over and the voltage drops back down to a normal level, the TISP4070L3BJR-S turns off, preventing any further current from flowing through it and restoring the system to its normal state. This process takes place in a very short amount of time (2.9µs) making it suitable for even the fastest transients.The TISP4070L3BJR-S is a very versatile triode thyristor, with its fast response time, low leakage current, and low on-state voltage drop making it ideal for TVS applications. Its ability to quickly and efficiently protect systems from voltage surges makes it a valuable device for ensuring the reliability and safety of electronic systems.
