Product Overview
TLP183 (BL-TPL) is a Transistor, Photovoltaic Output Optoisolator, an input voltage applied to its emitter terminal results in a current of up to 30mA from the output photovoltaic transistor. This device consists of a GaAℓAs infrared emitting diode, optically coupled to a light activated NPN silicon output transistor in a 6-pin SO6 package. The output transistor is capable of switching loads of up to 30V.Key Features

Applications
The TLP183 (BL-TPL) is a high performance optoisolator, suitable for a wide range of applications. Due to its high current capability, it is ideally suited for power switching applications. It is suitable for use in high speed analogue and digital signal transmission, LED drive, power supply and microprocessor control. It can also be used in communication systems including telephone and modem applications.Working Principle
TLP183 (BL-TPL) optoisolator works in a similar way to other opto-couplers, by having an input optically coupled to an output. Light emitted from the input (emitting diode) passes through a light-proof window of the device and is focussed on a light-activated NPN output transistor which then turns on. When sufficient input voltage is applied to the emitter, the current from the output transistor is capable of switching loads of up to 30V.The separation between the input and output terminals provides isolation which prevents noise interference, line noise, or DC current from compromising the signal. This is because the light-proof window blocks the passage of electrical current while it allows full transmission of light waves between the two components.Conclusion
