Solid State Relays (SSRs) are devices used for the switching of high voltage AC or DC loads. They consist of an optically coupled input module and a power module. The TLP3100(TP,F) series are industrial grade slim, compact Photo-MOS relays, which combine a high speed optically coupled isolator and a power switching device into a single DIP package. This series has various mounting configurations for direct surface mounting on printed circuit boards and is suitable for all types of products.

The TLP3100 are intended for a wide variety of industrial equipment, including adjustable equipment, welding machines, servo motors, electro-plating equipment, inverter motors, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and switching power supplies.

Application Field:

The TLP3100 (TP,F) is designed for industrial applications with insulated gate MOSFET structures. It is suitable for switching both AC and DC loads, and has various control circuits for optimum switching performance, as well as narrow package widths for small installation spaces. It offers flexible protection features such as over temperature protection, over current protection, and no reverse connection protection.

The interface of the TLP3100(TP,F) series includes a DC input, a DC output, a Ground terminal, a control terminal and a Sense terminal. The DC input offers the ability to drive the power switching device using an appropriate control voltage. The DC output is used to control the switched load. The Ground terminal provides a ground for the control and sense circuits.

Working Principle:

The TLP3100 (TP,F) series has an insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) structure which allows for very fast on/off switching times. It provides a high switching capacity up to 25A with a 400VAC load current, or a DC load voltage of 250VDC. The input module has an on resistance of about 0.15Ω and a saturation voltage of about 0.4V. The switching operation is performed by an optically isolated MOSFET structure with a maximum surge voltage of 450V, and a maximum surge current of 50mA.

When voltage is applied to the control terminal, the optically coupled input module transmits a signal to the power module which drives the IGBT switch. Current is provided to the switching device through the DC input, and voltage is provided to the load from the DC output. The Sense terminal is used to sense the load voltage and provide feedback to the control terminal. This ensures the the desired switching performance is achieved and that any excess current is avoided by turning off the switch. Once the load voltage reaches the set level, the Sense terminal will send a signal to the control terminal to turn off the switch.

The TLP3100(TP,F) series is CE-compliant and offers a wide operating temperature range from -40C to +100C for reliable operation in many industrial and commercial applications. It also uses a highly efficient switching piece, resulting in a low power consumption and low heat generation.
