TLZ20-GS18 Application Field and Working Principle
Diodes are passive components on an electronic circuit board that allow electrical current to flow in one direction. Working Principle
The TLZ20-GS18 operates by allowing a small “reverse” current to flow through the diode’s PN junction under certain conditions. As the voltage across this PN junction increases, the reverse current also increases. When the voltage reaches the “breakdown” voltage (in this case 18 V), this current explodes and starts to flow in the opposite direction. This is known as “Zener breakdown” and it is the main way the diode is able to limit the voltage across it.
Once the voltage is greater than the breakdown voltage, its value gets clamped to this voltage, regardless of any further increases in the incoming voltage. This means that even if the input voltage is higher than the breakdown voltage, the output voltage will be the same, providing regulation and protection to the circuit.
