The TMD2620-DB is an digital ambient light sensor (ALS) evaluation board fromams, that can be used to measure visible and infrared light in the environment. This evaluation board is the perfect solution for applications such as measuring the ambient light intensity for display brightness control and wall switch applications, or for use in the automotive industry for controlling internal lighting. Additionally, it can be used for gesture recognition, proximity detection and intuitive light sensors.
The TMD2620-DB includes the ams TMD2620 chip, which is an advanced integrated digital ALS. It is integrated with a wide range of features like integration time control, filters, hysteresis, resolution setting, and gain control. The TMD2620-DB also has a wide range of protections, including watchdog timer and over temperature shutdown. Additionally, the board supports a low power mode for applications concerned with extending device lifetime. The device can be easily configured using the three channel serial interface that is included on the board.
The TMD2620-DB board is designed to support a wide range of different evaluation scenarios. It utilises a low noise 16-bit A/D converter that outputs analogue light levels. Additionally, it is able to provide visibility information to the user in terms of either the visible light or infrared intensity. To accommodate a wide range of different application needs, the board is equipped with a range of external components, including a photodiode, an ambient light filter, a phototransistor and an amplifier.
In addition to the features of the TMD2620-DB, there are two main aspects to the board design that make it an ideal solution for digital ambient light sensing. Firstly, it has advanced integration support for up to 18 different devices, giving the user the ability to easily connect and interface other devices to the board. Secondly, it supports high speed multi-bit I2C bus transfers, which significantly reduce the external component count, and allows for very fast response times in ambient light sensing applications.
To further improve the versatility of the TMD2620-DB, it is able to provide accurate intensity readings for both visible and infrared wavelengths, giving the user the ability to use different types of light sources or different colour temperatures when evaluating the sensor. Additionally, the board is able to detect changes in ambient light intensity on a millisecond timescale. This allows for extremely fast response times from the sensor, which can be critical in applications where changes in light levels need to be responded to quickly in order to control the application environment.
The ams TMD2620-DB board is an ideal solution for a wide range of ambient light sensing applications. It is equipped with advanced integration features, and has the flexibility to allow for easy connection of multiple devices to the board. Additionally, its two-bit I2C bus communication and high speed response times make it an excellent choice for applications that require fast response times to changes in the ambient light environment.
