TP1.5KE39CA is a part of a family of Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) diodes designed to protect against transient overvoltages in high-reliability and cost-sensitive applications. It utilizes an ultra low leakage silicon Avalanche diode and a patented Epitaxial Base Junction technology (EBJT) to offer extremely low leakage current (5nA) and outstanding power handling capability (1.5 W) within the industry standard SMA/DO-214AA form factor. It is ideal for applications such as LED lighting, PoE ports, automotive electronics, wireless chargers, and other high-reliability circuit configurations where protection against surges and ESD is needed.The working principle of TP1.5KE39CA is based on the theory of avalanche breakdown. When a high voltage is applied across the diode, it causes the holes and electrons to be accelerated at high speeds. Once their energies exceed the energy gap of the diode material, the collision between these charges creates a strong electric field. This electric field causes further multiplication of electron-hole pairs, resulting in an avalanche breakdown. This process is also known as Zener breakdown.The avalanche or Zener breakdown effects are limited to a controlled area of the diode. This "breakdown region" is designed to quickly reduce the voltage when a transient is present. In TVS diodes, the breakdown region is designed to have a significantly lower value than the normal operating voltage of the device.As the voltage reaches the breakdown value, the diode rapidly transitions to a high conductivity state, allowing current to flow until the transient is dissipated. This protects the connected equipment from overvoltage damage. Once the transient has passed, the diode returns to its normal state, blocking any remaining voltage.In addition to its exceptional low leakage current and power handling capability, the TP1.5KE39CA also features a low dynamic resistance to ensure fast response speeds and high working voltage to provide robust protection against high voltage surges.
