The TPS3S014-Q1EVM is a flexible general purpose evaluation and demonstration board designed to allow for easy evaluation of the TPS3S014-Q1 buck synchronous rectifier device, a synchronous buck driver optimized for high diode current applications. It has the ability to power a wide range of synchronous buck topologies including an entire family of non-isolated power converters: DC/DC step-down, boosted, flyback, half bridge, SEPIC, and configurations with multiple outputs. At a low cost and with ease of use, the TPS3S014-Q1EVM makes it ideal for customers to evaluate and demonstrate the full range of TPS3S014-Q1 capabilities.
The TPS3S014-Q1EVM allows for a power supply of up to 12V/2A and a wide input voltage range of 2.7V to 24V. It has dedicated gates for both the high and low switches to allow for a full range of synchronous buck topologies. The board also incorporates protection circuitry, such as overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, and overtemperature lockout protection.
To evaluate the TPS3S014-Q1, the user can make use of the adjustable output voltage (ON/OFF pin) to enable either 1.2V or 1.8V operation. The user can also adjust the frequency up to 2MHz using the /SYNC inputs and control the VOUT by turning the toggle switch to either manual or automatic mode. In either mode, the user can adjust the output voltage using the potentiometer.
The TPS3S014-Q1EVM board also contains all the necessary circuitry to measure the device operating parameters. It includes several sensed voltage and current rating pins which can be used to measure the current and voltage of the power circuit. Three sets of status LEDs are provided to give visual indication of the device status. The TPS3S014-Q1EVM also has a graphical user interface to monitor, control and adjust the device parameters. This easy-to-use graphical user interface allows for quick evaluation of the device in any environment. Additionally, the board has an EEPROM with 256Kbytes of memory available for storing user settings and parameters.
The TPS3S014-Q1EVM can operate in any synchronous buck topology by using the gates from the IC. By using the intuitive graphical user interface, the user can easily and accurately access operating parameters to quickly evaluate the device performance. The board provides last setting recall, built-in protection functions, and simple evaluation of errors and faults. With these features, it makes it easy and accessible for practitioners to evaluate and demonstrate the capabilities of the TPS3S014-Q1 device.
