Working Principle
The working principle of this TVS diode is simple. When a transient event of voltage or current occurs in the external environment, the specialized structure of the TVS diode allows it to absorb these events and shorts them to ground, which in turn protects the connected electronic systems. During a normal, no-transient operation, the diode exists in its OFF state and provides no additional capacitance or impedance to the normal signal.
The TPD3E001DRYR is designed with an avalanche breakdown structure, where voltage above the rated breakdown voltage causes carriers of the valence band to be pushed into the conduction band, resulting in the release of large amount of current and dumping the voltage across the device. While this gives excellent protection against ESD transients, it also minimize transient clamping voltage by its low regulator zener breakdown voltage.
