TheTPS2216ADAPG4 is a secondary side power switch in a PMIC - Power Distribution Switches, Load Drivers family. It is a single-channel negative adjustable current limited power switch IC. It is ideal for powering downstream circuits, monitor and control LED current, or other switching applications with low power loss and low voltage drop.

The device is optimized to supply up to -500mA of controlled current while the current limit is adjustable with a single resistor. The TPS2216A is configured with an active-low Enable input and an input voltage range of -2.2V to -22V.

The device includes an internal under-voltage lockout which, when enabled, causes the current limited function to be disabled over a voltage range that is determined by external resistors. The current limit will remain disabled until voltage has returned to a safe level and the device is enabled. The device also includes an internal reverse current clamp, which will shut off the output if a reverse current is sensed.

The TPS2216ADAPG4 comes in a 14-pin TSSOP package and operates over a temperature range of -55°C to 125°C. The device is RoHS compliant.

Working Principle

The TPS2216ADAPG4 is designed with a series of internal MOSFETs to efficiently provide -500mA of continuous adjustable current. When the chip is enabled, the output MOSFET is turned on and the output is allowed to conduct current. During normal operation, the current will continue to flow until the load reaches its peak current limit, at which point the output MOSFET current is cut off and the output current is restricted.
