It is a PolyPhase hot swap controller offering superior performance in system implementations requiring multiple power domains. This device provides one gate driver output with a maximum duty cycle of 90% for enabling a power transistor as well as an additional output for supplying gate drive current to additional external devices. Its enhanced non-overlapping control scheme is designed to reduce input current ripple for higher system power efficiency.

Working Principle

The TPS2490DGSRG4 Hot Swap Controller is based on a dual stage circuit. The primary stage is comprised of a set of precision reference voltages to monitor the hot swap voltage and a comparator to off-trip the Hot Swap MOSFET. The secondary stage is comprised of a constant current sink, a comparator and a delay circuit which combines with the precision reference to provide a safety time-out function to off-trip the Hot Swap MOSFET multiple second after the initial overcurrent is detected. This devices also integrate a power on reset (POR) circuit so that when the hot swap supply is toggled there is no transient current flow over the hot swap MOSFET. The integrated voltage regulator provides supply voltage to the control logic and the current sense circuitry. Additionally, the device also provides a disable signal, an over temperature warning signal, an over-voltage signal, a fault indication signal, an overcurrent indication signal which enables a supervision micro-controller to take appropriate action.
