Working principle

The TPS3306-20D monitors a fixed voltage output rail for power-on reset (POR) activity. It has an adjustable threshold voltage which is programmable with a 4.7kΩ or 10kΩ input resistor. When the input voltage is below the threshold, the output is pulsed low and sets the output voltage of the voltage supervisor to a logic low level. This sets an interrupt to the processor in the system, alerting it that the power rails are not in a valid range for operation. Conversely, when the input voltage is greater than the threshold voltage, the output voltage is set to a logic high level and the system is alerted that the power rails are in a valid range for operation.

Another feature of the TPS3306-20D is its low power operation. The device consumes only 6µA of current in active mode and can switch to a low-power shutdown mode when not being actively used.
