The Texas Instruments TPS3707-33DG4 is a single-phase Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) designed to meet these requirements. It is part of the Texas Instruments Voltage Supervisors portfolio which is designed for protection, monitoring and diagnostics in high voltage and low voltage applications.
The TPS3707-33DG4 is a low quiescent current supervisor IC with a temperature-range of -40°C to +125°C. The integrated circuits (ICs) have an operating voltage range of 1.8V to 6V, a standby current of <0.1μA, and a programmable output voltage down to 0.6V. It is suitable for numerous applications, including telecommunications, healthcare, consumer electronics, industrial, automotive, and space-borne applications.
The ICs feature a selection of built-in safety features such as an auto switch-off, adjustable circuit breaker-type protection levels, and can detect a range of different conditions such as an over-temperature, over-voltage, and over-current limiting. Additionally, the ICs can be reset if power is removed and/or reapplied, allowing them to be used in a wide variety of automation and protective solutions.
The TPS3707-33DG4 employs a wide-range voltage supervisors architecture that meets the needs of many applications. The architecture is designed to provide cost-effective, high performance solutions for a wide range of high-performance, high-voltage and low-voltage applications. The voltage supervisor comprises three major components: a main control circuit, a power control circuit and an external comparator circuit.
The main control circuit is responsible for executing the power management commands that have been set by either an external system or by an internal program. It also manages the communication, routing and monitoring of the different signals that are connected to the TPS3707-33DG4 and allows the user to fine-tune the levels of voltage, current, temperature and other parameters accordingly.
The power control circuit monitors the voltage level and provides adjustable protection levels for various conditions, such as excessive temperature or current. The circuit can also be used to force the ICs to reset or switch-off if a critical fault is detected. The power control circuit is composed of three major blocks: voltage regulation and protection blocks, sequence control block and logic control block.
The external comparator circuit is an externally connected voltage monitor. The comparator circuit can also be used to select the input voltage levels which should be applied to the TPS3707-33DG4 during the power up and power down of a particular system.
The TPS3707-33DG4 is suitable for use in a variety of applications including computer motherboards, telecommunications transceivers, LED lighting, security systems and embedded systems.
