Power management integrated circuits (PMIC) are widely used in various applications and are essential components in many systems used for consumer, automotive and industrial fields. As one type of PMICs, supervisors are mainly applied in systems power management tasks. Supervisors are used to monitor the system power supply and other signals. They are able to detect the system anomalies, latch reset signals, restore the power supply to its proper voltage, provide safety overvoltage protection and deliver reset signals to the system components. The TPS3824-50DBVTG4 is an ultra-low power voltage supervisor with a fixed threshold voltage of 2.6V and an accurate delay time of 50ms, which is exported in the SOT23-6 package. It is usually used in systems which require a stable power supply voltage.
The TPS3824-50DBVTG4 is specially designed for ultra-low power applications. During the normal operating situation, the IC’s operating current is very low, at about 0.4μA, and does not cause significant power consumption. This makes it the perfect choice for battery-powered systems, providing low power consumption and reliable power supply monitoring. Additionally, as it is compatible with various power voltages, ranging from 0.8V to 5.5V, it is perfectly suitable for various systems.
The TPS3824-50DBVTG4 contains one reset signal output and two active-low comparator status output pins, allowing it to provide accurate digital feedback and multiple independent hysteresis thresholds. The low threshold trip point is 150mV below the nominal threshold voltage, while the high threshold is 150mV above the nominal threshold voltage. This results in a total of 300mV hysteresis, minimizing jitter and ensuring robust noise margin at the threshold. Additionally, the pin RESETEN is available for user, who can disable or enable reset out at any time.
The working principle of the TPS3824-50DBVTG4 can be divided into four major stages: startup monitor, active monitor, power down reset, and delay reset. During startup, the TPS3824-50DBVTG4 will monitor both the input voltage and the reset signal. If the input voltage is lower than the specified threshold, the reset signal will be produced until the input voltage rise above the threshold. During the active monitor stage, the device will continuously monitor the input voltage while the reset signal is kept active. During the power down reset stage, the device will automatically reset the signal when the input voltage is lower than the low threshold voltage. Finally, during the delay reset stage, the device will produce delayed reset signals for a certain amount of time if the input voltage is lower than the high threshold voltage and is lower than the low threshold voltage for more than 50ms.
In summary, the TPS3824-50DBVTG4 is very suitable for ultra-low power applications due to its very low voltage threshold and current consumption. By accurately monitoring the system voltage and reset signals, it is able to stabilize and maintain the system power supply, ensuring the reliability of the system.
