The TPS767D301PWPG4 is a low-voltage linear regulator designed for the portable devices market, such as notebook computers and advanced digital products that require a low quiescent current and low dropout voltage. The regulator uses a new CMOS process technology which can provide excellent load regulation and low operating temperature.This regulator features low dropout voltage, typically up to 0.2V (under a 2.8V input and a 1.8V output). The maximum output current can reach 300mA, and the output voltage can be adjusted from 1.22V to 3.6V by two NMOS transistors. In addition, the TPS767D301PWPG4 is capable of using an external voltage divider to adjust the output voltage.The TPS767D301PWPG4 also features an improved power supply rejection ratio (PSRR) to reduce the noise generated by the switching power supply. Its low dropout voltage and high PSRR make the TPS767D301PWPG4 ideal for portable applications where supply voltage is not easily adjusted. The TPS767D301PWPG4 regulator has excellent thermal stability with a minimum of 0.05%/°C temperature coefficient and a line regulation of 0.04% . Furthermore, it offers excellent load regulation and low signal noise. With its small 3mm x 3mm SOT-23-5 package, the TPS767D301PWPG4 is able to save area for portable devices. Due to its high-performance, low-current, low-dropout characteristics and compact dimensions, the TPS767D301PWPG4 regulator is ideal for various low-voltage applications. The device is most often used in portable DVD players, mp3 players, and notebooks, as well as in smartphones and other hand-held devices. The working principle of the TPS767D301PWPG4 is based on the principle of controlling the current in the pass transistor. A voltage reference is used to set the maximum output voltage. The pass transistor is then connected in series between the input and output voltage rails. The voltage reference and the pass transistor act as a voltage regulator that keeps the output voltage constant and regulates the current through the pass transistor. The pass transistor is controlled by an error amplifier. The error amplifier compares the voltage reference with the output voltage, and the difference is used to adjust the current in the pass transistor. When the output voltage rises, the current in the pass transistor is lowered, and vice-versa. This stabilizes the output voltage, keeping it constant regardless of input voltage fluctuations or a varying load. The TPS767D301PWPG4 also includes a foldback current limit circuit and an output over-voltage protection circuit, making it better-suited for portable applications. The foldback current limit circuit senses the output voltage and increases the current limitation as the output voltage approaches the regulated voltage. The output over-voltage protection circuit ensures that the output voltage does not exceed the regulated voltage set by the voltage reference.
