Working Principle

The TPS7A8018DRBR is a low-noise linear voltage regulator based on the traditional linear regulator configuration. The device works in the following way: In the first stage, the Input voltage is compared to an internal bandgap reference voltage, which is used as the reference voltage for all regulation stages. The resulting differential voltage between the input and the reference is amplified by the Error Amplifier. The output of the Error Amplifier is fed to the PWM comparator, which compares the amplified output with the internal reference voltage and the feedback voltage from the output voltage. If the output voltage is higher than the desired voltage, the PWM comparator will turn off the gate drive to the output switch. This will cause the output switch to become non-conducting and the output voltage will drop until it reaches the desired voltage.
