TSL2014

The TSL2014 is a specialized light-to-digital converter sensor that optimizes the response in visible and infrared light ranges. It is a low power, single-channel sensing element with spectral response similar to the human eye. The device is an ambient light sensor with an integrated wide range sensing element. It sends a digital signal to the system after responding to the amount of visible or near infrared light at its detecting position.

Overview

Working Principle

The TSL2014 has a CMOS pixel containing a photodiode which generates a voltage in response to incident light. This voltage is amplified and compared to a reference voltage. Depending on the comparison, the signal from the sensor can either be high or low. This change in voltage is eventually converted to a digital signal that is outputted to the system receiving it. In both PWM and Sigfox protocols, the light sensors are programmed to trigger certain communication activities.
