Diodes - Zener - Single:

The TZMC18-M-08 is a single zener diode that is typically used for voltage regulation, common mode noise reduction and over-voltage protection. The device is formed with a low power P-type semiconductor substrate and an N-type etched junction.

Application Field:

The TZMC18-M-08 is capable of operation in a wide range of voltage regulation applications, including:

• Automotive power management;
• Cellphone and tablet power management and protection;
• USB, charger and power adapter protection; and
• Battery-imposed over-voltage protection.

The device can also be used in common mode noise reduction as well, with typical applications in electronic power supplies, UPS systems and DC/DC converters.

Working Principle:

The operation of the TZMC18-M-08 is based on the Zener breakdown principle of Zener diodes. It consists of a P-type semiconductor on which an N-type etched junction is formed. This structure produces a highly symmetric electric field that keeps the junction forward-biased, keeping it in its non-conductive state when the applied voltage is smaller than its Zener voltage.

When the applied voltage reaches the device’s Zener voltage, the junction undergoes a low current breakdown, allowing conduction in the reverse direction. This enables the device to regulate the input voltage, limiting it to its Zener voltage and providing further protection from over-voltage conditions.

The TZMC18-M-08 is rated to operate from -40°C to +125°C and is packed in a SOD71 plastic package with 6 Leads.
