Aluminum electrolytic capacitors, or simply electrochemical capacitors, are a type of capacitor that has an anode of pure aluminum and a cathode of an oxide layer, as well as an electrolyte which is typically a polarizable ion. Compared to other types of capacitors, aluminium electrolytic capacitors have a much greater capacitance and range in voltage capacity from just a few volts to several hundred volts. While some aluminum electrolytic capacitors are designed as cylindrical objects, others have specific shape requirements.
