Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are referred to as "electrolytic" because they are polarized electrochemical components with an electrolyte in the form of a liquid or solid that causes an ionic current to pass through them when a potential is applied. While related in function to conventional capacitors, which use dielectric insulators, aluminum electrolytic capacitors have the advantage of offering higher capacity. This makes them suitable for use in applications where high energy storage is needed. The UBX1K331MHL is a highly reliable aluminum electrolytic capacitor with a cylindrical shape and radial leaded terminals. The UBX1K331MHL aluminum electrolytic capacitor is a general-purpose, long life product that offers high reliability and long service life. It has an operating temperature range of -40°C to 105°C, and a maximum ripple current of 2000mArms@105°C (2.1Arms@85°C). With a maximum operating voltage of 50VDC, the UBX1K331MHL is ideal for applications that require a reliable power source such as power systems, automotive, industrial and consumer electronics. The UBX1K331MHL aluminum electrolytic capacitor is based on a technology known as "atmospheric environment-assisted aluminum electrolytic capacitors". These capacitors use an absorbent of atmospheric moisture as the electrolyte, usually in the form of a gel or oil. The absorbent is sandwiched between the anode and cathode and contains an additional layer of liquid, where the ionic current flows. This allows the capacitor to be self-extinguishing and prevents fire or explosion hazards. The construction of a UBX1K331MHL aluminum electrolytic capacitor includes two aluminum foils - a cathode and an anode - which are insulated with an ionic get. This gel acts as the medium for electrolytic conduction, enabling the capacitor to operate at a voltage potential across the component. The lead wires are attached to the anode and cathode foils, in order to provide a continuous current path from the component to the external circuit.
