Operating Principal of UC2572DTR

This DC DC switching controller employs a constant on-time pulse-width modulation (PWM) architecture.This cost effective technique is used to regulate output voltage and current to provide good stability and accuracy when used with external components. It employs current-mode control with input voltage feed-forward and provides superior line regulation.The UC2572DTR detects the output voltage at its dedicated feedback pin (FB), compares it with an internal reference voltage, and produces an error signal within the On-Time period. The On-Time period is constanly adjusted to compensate changes in output voltage and current. To ensure stability, an external frequency compensation with a single resistor is implemented in order to enable a fast loop response.

Protection Mechanisms

The UC2572DTR also offers a range of protection mechanisms such as Over-Voltage protection, Under-Voltage protection, Over-Current protection, Short-circuit protection and Cycle-by-Cycle Current Limit. Over-Voltage protection works by increasing the duty cycle until the over-voltage condition is removed. Under-Voltage protection functions by inhibiting the On-Time generation and stops further operation when the voltage at the feedback pin (FB) falls bellow a certain level.Over-Current Protection mechanism works by monitoring the output current by sensing the voltage drop across the low on-resistance power switch. It terminates the switching cycle and restarts it after the sensed value falls below a set limit.Short-circuit protection is implemented by sensing the voltage at the feedback (FB) pin. When the output voltage is too low, it terminates the switching cycle and restart when the output voltage returns to normal.
