UC3823ADWTR is a kind of DC-DC Switching Controller which is produced by Texas Instruments. It is a brick wall current mode controller with internal pull-up regulation, side-loop regulation and soft-start functions, targetted for Off-Line Converters. In most cases, it is used in applications of Auxiliary Switch Mode Power Supply, Adaptor and for driving WLED Matrices.

UC3823ADWTR is a single chip controller in a 4-pin surface mount package. It operates at an operating voltage of 4.5V to 29V. Its outputs are designed to be connected directly to the gate of a power MOSFET or insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT). The switching frequency of the controller can be adjusted by an external resistive divider. A turbocharged boost-type topology is used to efficiently implement the soft-start function; the power dissipation of the device is minimized while operation is stable. Due to the current mode control, the device has excellent dynamic response at light and heavy loads; The power dissipation is therefore even lower, especially at light loads. It has balanced vertical and horizontal blanking durations, leading to a more stable power supply design.

The built-in 100μA current limit with adjustable fold-back and dynamic response compensates for both MOSFET saturated and unsaturated current limiting. It provides fast, smooth transient response with minimal external components. An offset of about 3V is between collector and emitter when the output is in Active High state. When the output is in active low state, the offset is about 1.5V.

It is able to achieve 5V logic level and is a stable, self–positioning current regulator which closes the loop between the average current and the voltage at the controller’s output. The integrated external pull-up voltage regulator compensates for variations in input voltage, and a side–loop (SL) regulates outputs with a higher–voltage requirement. The precision SL provides a clean output, eliminating most secondary emissions, thereby enabling better compatibility with stricter EMI specifications.

UC3823ADWTR is based on the architecture of Draw-Resistor Discharge Method (DRDM) and has low power consumption, high efficiency. The device has an internally compensated error amplifier that provides a reference voltage of 0.6V which is accurate over a wide range of output voltages and line voltages. The output stage delay is improved and optimized by using an active soft-start circuit. It also makes the soft-start transition very smooth.

UC3823ADWTR is capable of driving an auxiliary supply rail up to 600V, making it suitable for a variety of applications such as low power off-line converters and LED driver circuits. It is designed to reduce input voltage ripple, minimize output voltage and current ripple and maintain high efficiency. It also supports wide-range of start-up and soft-start delay to match the requirements of different applications.
