UC3842BNG application field and working principle
UC3842BNG, a monolithic integrated pulse width modulation (PWM) voltage regulator designed using the BiCMOS process, is mainly applied in electronic ballast, off-line LED drivers and other electronic equipment. It has low start-up current and can operate without protection circuits for the output over-voltage, making it an ideal choice for the controller of DC-DC converters.
Applications of UC3842BNG
UC3842BNG is mainly used in electronic ballast, but can also be applied in other fields including off-line LED drivers, motor controllers, switching power supplies, and battery chargers, etc.
Electronic ballast has long been used in lighting systems such as hiding film projectors, fluorescent lamps, overhead lighting systems, and high-intensity discharge lamps. Using UC3842BNG as the power supply control part of the electronic ballast, it can effectively limit the current and voltage of the input power supply and reduce interference due to the power quality, which realizes the purpose of power saving and low power consumption.

Working Principle of UC3842BNG
UC3842BNG is advanced BiCMOS integrated circuit designed for switching power supplies. Its main function is to regulate the output voltage to a fixed level in spite of the input voltage and output load current changes. It has features of overload protection and current limiting, which makes it a reliable choice for power controlling.
At the core of its working principle is the voltage feedback loop. When the output voltage D goes lower than the set point V1, the error signal N will be sent to the internal circuit, and finally to the power transistor of the power supply, increasing the switching frequency and speed of the voltage compensation. Meanwhile, the output voltage increases. When the output voltage goes higher than the V1, reducing the switching frequency and the output voltage will reduce.
The second part is the current sensing loop. When the output current exceeds the set level, the current sensing loop will detect the higher level of the current, send out a control signal to the strength of the power transistor to limit the output current.
The on-chip soft start circuit prevents the power transistor from entering the abrupt full on mode and shunting too much current. It makes the output voltage rise smoothly and evenly, avoiding the unexpected voltage surge at the beginning of the process.
All of the above are just some of the applications of UC3842BNG and its working principle, but the advantages of UC3842BNG still include low power consumption, fast response rate, fewer external component needs, and wide voltage range.
