The UC3844BVD1G is a high performance current mode controller designed for use in off-line or DC-to-DC fixed frequency current-mode switching power supplies. Working Principle

The base processes begin with a low-resistance, high-current sense resistor placed in series with the switch and filter inductor of the power supply. When the switch is turned on, the voltage across the sense resistor increases rapidly. The TRAPEZOIDAL current-sense block of the controller senses this voltage, and the output is converted to a linear current with a current-sense amplifier. This current is proportional to the primary current in the switch, and is converted back to a voltage, which is compared to VREF (internal reference voltage). The output of the comparator is used to control the on/off of the switching element, which is used to control the controller\'s output current and switching frequency.
