The UCC21521CEVM-286 is a complete, integrated, power-hungry AC-to-DC converter evaluation board that showcases the active-clamp flyback topology. It integrates a compact Buck-Boost battery charger solution based on the UCC21521 integrated circuit (IC), and provides a platform for development, test, and evaluation of the active-clamp flyback topology. The evaluation module (EVM) is optimized for a single 15V to 24V input source and can deliver up to 28W output power.
The UCC21521CEVM-286 evaluation board is a highly integrated platform with two integrated circuits, the UCC21521 and the UCC28780. The UCC21521 is designed to provide a regulated output voltage from a given voltage input. The IC can work with various switches and can operate with single power supply applications with very low input voltage values. The UCC28780 provides two outputs (from a single input voltage) and is specifically designed to work with the UCC21521. This IC also features an integrated thermal shutdown and an internal current limit circuit.
The UCC21521CEVM-286 is ideal for applications such as battery charger applications, DC/DC converters, and for other applications that require high efficiency power converters with wide input ranges. As a complete evaluation unit, it also offers several features, such as:

- A high-CMRR opto-coupler driver with an internal shutdown circuit
The UCC21521CEVM-286 evaluation kit offers the ability to quickly prototype and test power converters with a wide range of input sources and loads. It supports up to 10V to 24V input with a 4A output at 28W. The evaluation kit is powered by an external 15V AC or DC supply, which can be conveniently connected to any of the four convenient 2.1mm power jack terminals. The supplied board is populated with all the components required for a fully-functional evaluation board.
The UCC21521CEVM-286 evaluation board features an efficient power stage circuit design which allows for high efficiency and low emissions. The evaluation board also features an integrated Thermal Protection Diode which can be adjusted for a trip point of 30°C, 50°C or 70°C. The design also incorporates a soft start feature that limits the current inrush during start-up, and can be used to protects the system from current related faults. In addition, the board also provides a low-noise and high-loading capability with an adjustable duty-cycle for the switching converter.
All of the components used in the UCC21521CEVM-286 evaluation board are rated to withstand high power levels, while all of the input and output voltage specifications are thoroughly tested and verified for design accuracy.
