The UCC2895Q is a high-performance, offline, pulse-width-modulation (PWM), high-side and low-side, synchronous, current-mode, switch-mode-power-supply controller. It has a number of features that makes it ideal for a variety of applications, including high-efficiency, low-cost AC/DC off-line switch mode power supplies.
Application Field
The UCC2895Q is an excellent choice for AC/DC off-line switch mode power supplies. It can be used in flyback converters, half-bridge converters, full-bridge converters, multi-output converters and is suitable for non-isolated, as well as isolated topologies. It supports multiple switching frequencies, making it suitable for applications that require high frequency operation such as power factor correction (PFC) or off-line applications where maximum line and load response is essential.Working Principle
The UCC2895Q is a synchronous current-mode controller that combines the features of a PWM and an internal high-side and low-side MOSFET driver in a single, integrated circuit. Current is controlled by an inner current loop, which is optimized for fast line and load transient response. A voltage loop is utilized to control the output voltage from the converter. The UCC2895Q is designed to operate in either discontinuous current mode (DCM) or continuous conduction mode (CCM), depending on the inductance of the transformer and the input voltage. The switching frequency is adjustable and can be set anywhere between 100 and 500 kHz. The UCC2895Q also includes input feedforward, a slope compensation feature and auto-restart. Input feedforward is used to reduce input current distortion. Slope compensation is used to minimize the effects of current overshoot and instability due to circuit parasitics. Auto-restart helps to retard system restart after a shut-down condition. As with most switch mode controllers, the UCC2895Q includes several protections, such as overvoltage protection (OVP), overcurrent protection (OCP), as well as short circuit protection (SCP). OVP is used to protect the output from excessive voltage, while OCP is used to protect the output from overload or short circuit conditions. Each of these protections can be internally or externally programmed.
