The UC28742DBVT is a non-synchronous, offline buck switching regulator. It contains an integrated power MOSFET and rectifier bridge, a voltage-mode controller, detect and protection circuitry and an output voltage trim feature. The device is designed to regulate and convert power from an unregulated power source with a range of 4V to 18V to a desired output voltage. The voltage-mode controller monitors the output voltage using an internal error amplifier and uses a feedback loop to adjust the duty cycle of the power MOSFETs in order to maintain the desired output voltage. The power MOSFETs are driven by an oscillator with a fixed frequency and with a duty cycle modulated by the voltage-mode controller. The rectifier bridge converts the rectified input supply voltage to the desired output voltage, committing only a portion of the energy from the input voltage.In addition to the integrated power MOSFETs and rectifier bridge, the device also contains an internal over-temperature protection circuit, an under-voltage lockout circuit and a short circuit protection circuit. The over-temperature protection circuit senses the temperature of the power MOSFETs and shuts down the device if the temperature exceeds a predetermined limit. The under-voltage lockout circuit prevents supply voltages from going lower than 4V. The short-circuit protection circuit detects an over-current condition and shuts down the device to prevent any damage.Conclusion
