The UCC2807DTR-2 integrated circuit belongs to the PMIC - AC DC Converters and Offline Switchers family. It is a monolithic integrated converter specifically designed to be used in the power distribution of an isolated mid-voltage section with two outputs and one input in double-ended designs. This IC delivers switch-mode regulators up to a total of > 10W output power and can be used for off-line applications such as power supplies and DC-DC converters for telecom and computer power supplies, and 50/60Hz application.
The UCC2807DTR-2 includes a logic-controlled current source for softstart, internal current- and temperature limiting, overvoltage protection and a low-power standby mode. The soft-start time and the standby current are user adjustable. This integrated circuit also provides thermal protection on the secondary side which helps to safely work with high-power applications.
In terms of applications, the UCC2807DTR-2 can be used as a Flyback multi-output converter, as a buck regulator and as a boost regulator. This IC is also capable of being used as a stand-alone converter with its integrated low-side drivers to control the switching power transistors. This makes it suitable for applications such as solar converters, LCD displays, LED drivers and more.
This integrated circuit is capable of working with high-voltage and high-power applications up to 500W. It also includes input reset voltage capability as well as low-ripple current mode and continous conduction mode (CCM). Moreover, the UCC2807DTR-2 is tailored to work with very low input voltages and can be powered from anything from 5V up to 400V with an 87.5-kHz switching frequency.
The main working principle of the UCC2807DTR-2 is based on the Flyback topology. This topology allows for the design of an isolated DC-DC converter with a single switching device without having to use a transformer. This integrated circuit delivers multiple-output power up to 10W in a very small form factor. The internal logic allows it to be used as a Buck or Boost converter with up to two outputs in CCM and DCM operation.
The UCC2807DTR-2 works by synchronizing a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) signal at the oscillator frequency to control the input voltage. When the PWM signal is high, the switching transistor is turned on, allowing current to flow from the input source until the peak current limit is met. When the PWM signal is low, the switching transistor is shut off and the inductive energy stored in the core of the transformer is transferred to the output, creating a regulated output voltage. In order to keep the output voltage regulated, feedback is taken from the output through a differential sensing circuit.
