Texas Instruments UCC28711EVM-160 evaluation board is an all-in-one power management solution for improving energy efficiency in sensitive points-of-load by creating an isolated two-phase boost solution from a wide input voltage range of 4.5 V–160 V. The UCC28711EVM-160 evaluation board is an isolated two-phase boost integrated solution based on two-stage boost converters and two UCC28711 controller ICs.
The UCC28711EVM-160 can provide a wide input voltage range of 4.5 V–160 V, allowing for high efficiency and robustness when powering sensitive points-of-load in systems such as communications equipment, industrial controllers, and instrumentation. When the input voltage is out of this range, the UCC28711EVM-160 is protected by an input under-voltage lockout circuit and an over-voltage protection circuit.
In addition to input voltage protection, the UCC28711EVM-160 also features an over-temperature protection circuit, which is designed to shut down the output of the converters if the temperature of the UCC28711 exceeds a certain threshold. The over-temperature protection circuit can be adjusted simply by connecting a trim potentiometer to the EVM.
The UCC28711EVM-160 provides a two-phase boost solution, using the two-stage topology of buck and boost in a single package that combines two UCC28711 controllers and two integrated power switches. The two-stage boost topology provides excellent input current regulation, allowing for improved efficiency without having to resort to additional control stages.
The first stage of the UCC28711EVM-160 is a buck converter, which regulates the input voltage and provides a stable output for the second stage, a boost converter. The boost converter then regulates the output of the buck converter and provides a higher output voltage. Both stages of the converter can be adjusted by connecting a DC potentiometer to the EVM.
The UCC28711EVM-160\'s two-stage boost converter solution also features a third-order noise filter, which helps to prevent conducted EMI emissions from the system.
