Working Principle of UCC3813D-2

UCC3813D-2 consists of several sections and each of them has specific functions. Start charging the oscillator capacitor when the supply voltage rises above the start threshold value; the integrated low-side MOSFET and the PWM comparator form a full voltage multiplier cycle process that follows. During the process of switching, the internal high-side switch of UCC3813D-2 are connected to each other, and the low-side switch is connected to the ground, thus forming a closed loop.

The inductor current increases with the increase of voltage, until the current reaches the maximum value, the low-side switch will be opened, the inductor current will be discharged and the voltage will decrease, the voltage drop on the grid of the oscillator P-MOS tube will also decrease. As soon as the P-MOS conduction resistance is greater than the resistive divider circuit and the error amplifier\'s negative input end, the oscillator P-MOS is cut off and the process of switching restarts again.

When the output current reaches the maximum value, the oscillator quickly switches and then limits and stabilizes the output current. The current-protection resistor is connected in series with the output of the controller and the external reference voltage is applied to the select bit input terminal of the UCC3813D-2. Once the current in the current-protection resistor remains on during an off time of the upper switch, the protection bit will rise, thus turning off the low-side switch to achieve overcurrent protection.
