The UCC38C44D is a high-performance AC/DC converters and offline switchers primarily used in the automotive, home appliance and industrial markets. It is an extremely efficient and cost effective solution for the conversion of electrical energy to DC power. The UCC38C44D is a highly integrated power supply controller IC providing the necessary features to enable the design of high-efficiency, low-cost offline power supplies.The UCC38C44D integrates all the necessary power supply functions such as current mode control, over-voltage protection, short-circuit protection, over-temperature protection, current limitation, soft-start charging and line feed-forward, into a single chip. It also includes high power logic and gate drive circuits in order to enable the implementation of the full-bridge resonant converter topology. The UCC38C44D can be programmed to setup the switching frequency, active frequency jitter, carrier frequency, soft-start duration and some protection thresholds. Both dead-time selection and set up of the CPU\'s over-voltage and over-temperature protection thresholds can also be programmed.The UCC38C44D utilizes a multi-channel MOSFET driver and is capable of driving high-side and low-side N-channel and P-channel MOSFETs. This enables it to be used with either conventional DCM boost, buck-boost or flyback topologies. It has a wide operating range of 4.5V to 25V and a current limit of up to 2A.The UCC38C44D can be used with various power topologies such as buck, boost, flyback, half-bridge and full-bridge resonant converters. Its flexible design and comprehensive set of protection features make it an ideal choice for applications such as automotive, battery charging, consumer electronics, industrial and communication power supplies.The UCC38C44D works by producing a square wave signal that is used to drive the power MOSFETs alternately on and off (switching action) in order to convert the AC mains voltage to the required DC voltage for use in the circuit. The switching frequency and duty cycle are controlled by the chip in order to achieve the desired output voltage. The MOSFET driver also translates the PWM signal from the UCC38C44D into high voltage and high current pulses which drive the power MOSFETs.In addition to its core functions, the UCC38C44D also provides several protection features. These include overload protection, over-voltage protection, over-temperature protection and current-limiting. These features ensure that the UCC38C44D can operate safely and efficiently even in extreme conditions.Overall, the UCC38C44D is an extremely robust and reliable power supply controller IC that enables power supplies to be designed easily and cost effectively.
