Aluminum electrolytic capacitors make up the largest class of capacitors and the most widely used type of electrolytic capacitor due to their low cost, high energy density, and wide range of temperature ratings. In this article, we will discuss the UCZ2A301MNQ1MS application field and working principle of aluminum electrolytic capacitors.
The UCZ2A301MNQ1MS is an extremely high-temperature rated aluminum electrolytic capacitor featuring an axial-leaded polycarbonate case, with a negative electrode insulated with polyester tape. The UCZ2A301MNQ1MS is designed for operating temperatures of up to 150°C and 85°C case temperature. This capacitor is suitable for use in high-temperature industrial applications such as welding equipment and HVAC system controllers.
The working principle of an aluminum electrolytic capacitor is similar to that of a regular capacitor. The main difference is that the construction of an aluminum electrolytic capacitor allows for a much higher capacitance compared to a regular capacitor, as the materials it is constructed from are much better conductors of electricity. The construction is also different, as the aluminum electrolytic capacitor consists of two aluminum foils, with insulating oxide layers and impregnated paper separators, that are enclosed in a casing. The oxide layers act as the capacitor’s dielectric, and the impregnated paper separators act as the capacitor’s electrodes. The amount of charge a capacitor can store is related to the size of the dielectric, with the larger dielectric having more charge storage capacity than a small dielectric.

The capacitor’s operating temperature range is -55°C to +150°C and its case temperature range is -40°C to +85°C.
