Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are passive components used with electronic circuits.They consists of two aluminum plates that sandwich an electrolyte dielectric material, typically paper or aluminum oxide.An electric field is created across the plates, and the strength of the field is determined by the voltage applied to the capacitor. This field stores charge and creates an electric current when the charges are released. Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are used in a wide variety of applications, including DC power supplies, radio frequency filters, and amplifiers.

ULD2D4R7MED1TD Application Field and Working Principle

The ULD2D4R7MED1TD aluminum electrolytic capacitor is designed for high voltage, low ESR, and high ripple current applications.It is a radial leaded device consisting of an anode, a cathode and an electrolyte, combined in an aluminum case.The anode consists of two aluminum foils, each with a high purity electrolyte coating.The polarized aluminum electrolytic capacitor can operate at very high ripple currents and are suitable for applications such as power factor correction of DC-DC converters, high-tone speakers,and power electronic components such as switching regulators, line filters, resonant circuits, and EMI/RFI filters.

The ULD2D4R7MED1TD capacitor utilizes a unique wet electrolyte technology for increased capacitance, better capacitance stability and lower ultimate series resistive (ESR) and Leakage Current (LC). It also has self-healing characteristics that helps to prevent failure should a short circuit or over voltage event occur. In addition, its design also helps to minimize noise and reduce spurious oscillations in switch mode applications. The use of a special high purity aluminum foil helps achieve improved frequency response characteristics while its zinc-coated steel hardware ensures high long-term reliability.

When voltage is applied to the capacitor, electrons are forced out of the anode and flow through the electrolyte to the cathode side. This flow of electrons creates an electric field between the plates, which stores the energy. The capacitor is charged when an electric current passes through it, and the electric field created between the plates stores the energy. This field collapses when the current is removed and the energy is released. The capacitance of the device depends on the size of the plates and the strength of the electric field. The higher the voltage, the higher the capacitance of the device.
