Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors

An aluminum electrolytic capacitor is a capacitor whose anode is aluminum foil with surface oxidation, and graphite as cathode (the surface area of aluminum foil is much larger than that of the graphite). The small gap between the aluminum foil and graphite is filled with electrolyte solution, also there is a paper sandwiched between the components to insulate them. Capacitance varies with applied voltage, and the amount of current passed through it. As such, this capacitor type, also known as variable capacitance devices are widely used in the audio and RF circuits for matching and tuning.
