Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors consist of two aluminum foils separated by a thin paper impregnated with electrolyte. The anode foil is electrolytically etched forming a large number of parallel narrow ribs or gills reducing the surface area of the foil giving an increased effective capacitance per unit volume. These capacitors can be constructed for very low capacitance values as the ribbed foil acts as an effective dielectric. The cathode foil is coated with an aluminum oxide film to serve as a dielectric.

UMF1A220MDD Application Field and Working Principle

The UMF1A220MDD is a high capacitance, low‐leakage aluminum electrolytic capacitor suitable for a variety of applications. It is well‐suited for use in high current circuits or any other situation where a long life is desired. The capacitor has a low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) and capacity that is consistent over time. It is designed to provide reliable performance when operated at up to 50V.

The UMF1A220MDD aluminum electrolytic capacitor is constructed with two aluminum foils separated by a paper insulator impregnated with electrolyte. The anode foil is etched with tiny ribs or gills which helps to increase its effective capacitance per unit volume. The cathode foil is coated with an aluminum oxide film, which acts as a dielectric. A series of electrical contacts are made on the top and bottom of the device, which allows it to be connected to a circuit.
