Working Principle of UMT0G220MDD Capacitors
The UMT0G220MDD capacitor uses aluminum as its metalized plates to form electrolytic capacitor. This type of capacitor consists of several parts including anode foil, separator, cathode foil and electrolyte. It uses dielectric property of aluminum oxide in combination with Faraday’s laws of electrolysis in order to achieve capacitance.
The anode foil is made up of very thin aluminum foil which is etched to form an oxide layer. This oxide layer acts as the dielectric layer and keeps the anode potential at a relatively constant level. The cathode foil is also a thin aluminum foil which is dipped into an electrolyte, such as acid or alkaline solution, and serves as an electrical connection between the capacitor and the external circuit.
When voltage is applied to this capacitor, electrons are transferred from the anode to the cathode and electro-chemical action take place. This allows the capacitor to act as an energy storage device. To increase the amount of energy, the oxide layer is increased by etching more anode foil. The increased surface area of the anode foil in combination with higher electrolyte concentration gives a higher capacitance for the same size of capacitor.
