Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are often used in consumer electronics, electric vehicles, power supplies, computers, and a variety of other applications which require both large amounts of current, as well as long-term storage of energy. Amongst the many different kinds of electrolytic capacitors, the UPA1A102MPD3 is a radial leaded capacitor of solid conductive polymer construction. The capacitor is capable of high energy storage, and is able to achieve low ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance) and ESL (Equivalent Series Inductance). The leaded version also features weld-ability and high vibration-resistance.

The working principle of UPA1A102MPD3 aluminum electrolytic capacitors is based on the electrolytic action between a conductive layer made of anode foil and a conductive electrolyte. A cathode foil is then connected to the other side of the electrolyte. When a voltage is applied to the anode and cathode, a current passes between them which forms an electrolyte layer between both side foils. This electrolyte layer is then polarized into the dielectric, and the anode foil acts as an energy storage device. When the voltage is released, the capacitor discharges its energy until the voltage between the two foils is equalizes.
