Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are a type of capacitors that are constructed with two aluminum foils, rolled or stacked, and separated by a thin layer of oxide that functions as the dielectric. The oxide layer, produced by an oxidation process, is then charged with a thin layer of electrolyte, such as ethylene glycol, to create the capacitance. A small anode of lead is usually present in the center of the capacitor.
UPS0J151MED is a high-precision, low-voltage aluminum electrolytic capacitor. It is composed of an anode aluminum foil, a cathode aluminum foil and a thin etching layer of dielectric material in between. This thin dielectric layer consists of an aluminum oxide film which is formed by an anodizing process to achieve superior capacitance and dielectric properties.
UPS0J151MED is suitable for use in applications that require low voltage and high-precision capacitance. These capacitors are widely used in DC rated voltage range of 16V to 63V, and capacitance range is 4.7pF to 10.0pF. With a maximum voltage of 63V and capacitance range of 4.7pF to 10.0pF making it suitable for use in various applications with low voltage requirements such as telecommunication equipment, switching power supplies, power modules and LCD displays.
UPS0J151MED has an optimum capacitance and dissipation factor across its operating voltage range. The device has a high insulation resistance, low ESR, high ripple current capability and a high breakdown voltage ensuring long life and improved reliability in the application. The working principle of an aluminum electrolytic capacitor involves the movement of charge across the aluminum oxide dielectric by the applied electric field. When voltage is applied, the oxide film absorbs the electric field and stores charge, thus increasing the capacitance. This increases the capacitance for higher voltages until a breakdown voltage is reached, and the capacitance begins to decrease with increasing voltage.
The aluminum electrolytic capacitor works on the principle of electrical double layer. An electric field is established in the dielectric layer between the anode and the cathode. The electric field causes a separation of opposite charges and a buildup of charge near the electrolytic dielectric. This results in an increase in capacitance. As the capacitance increases, the voltage across the aluminum foil decreases and when it reaches a certain value, known as the breakdown voltage, the capacitance stops increasing.
