Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are components used in a huge number of electronic circuits and are particular popular in the field of power electronics due to their high capacitance values, low cost and small size.
UPTW6271MRD is one variety of aluminum electrolytic capacitor, which is a non polar mini radial aluminum electrolytic capacitor. The radial direction is defined as the line connecting the anode (+) and cathode (–) sides of the device.
The UPTW6271MRD capacitor is an excellent choice for high-frequency switching power converter applications such as DC-DC converter and AC-DC adapter to improve efficiency in high-density circuit boards and is ideal for high ripple current and ultra-low impedance with Ripple Current (RMS) and ESR values.

The principle of working of UPTW6271MRD is based on the Faraday’s law of electrolysis, which states that when an electric current passes through an electrolyte, the electrolyte is decomposed into two different ions or particles, one of which is positively charged and the other is negatively charged. These ions form a polarized film in the surface of the capacitor, allowing for electric current to flow in between. This film is also known as ‘dielectric’ and is the fundamental principle of aluminum electrolytic capacitors.
The electrical energy is stored in the capacitor in two ways, firstly by the anode and then by the cathode. The anode and the cathode form a sandwich of different metals (anode and cathode plates) with separator paper (dielectric) in between. When the anode is charged (+), the electrons build up on the anode and cause a negative potential on the dielectric. Similarly, as the cathode is electrically neutral, the negative potential on the dielectric causes electrons to accumulate on the cathode, resulting in two electric fields on either side of the dielectric. This causes the electric current to flow and the energy to be stored in the device.
